What are MBBS in Kazakhstan fees in 2026?
MBBS in Kazakhstan fees for English-medium Medicine are roughly 4,000–6,700 USD a year for tuition at public medical universities, as of November 2026. Each university approves its own price list every academic year, and English-medium study usually costs more than study in Russian or Kazakh.
The clearest official figure comes from Astana Medical University, whose 2026/27 price list sets 3,000,000 KZT a year (≈ $6,620) for the 6-year Medicine programme in English and 2,800,000 KZT (≈ $6,180) in Russian or Kazakh. Semey Medical University lists about 4,100 USD a year for English-medium study, and says the amount depends on the exchange rate. Over 6 years, the Astana fee adds up to 18,000,000 KZT (≈ $39,700), before rent, food and travel.
Most universities ask for the full first-year tuition before the enrolment order is signed.

Is MBBS in Kazakhstan NMC approved?
The National Medical Commission (NMC) of India does not approve foreign universities one by one; it checks whether your course meets the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021. According to the NMC's FAQ on these rules, you need at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution, teaching in English, the subjects of the Indian MBBS, and a licence to practise in the country that awarded the degree. After return you pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which the NExT exam will later replace, and do a 12-month supervised internship in India.
Kazakhstan's current structure fits these rules on paper. The Embassy of India in Astana explains that under Ministry of Health order No. DSM-63 of 4 July 2022, students admitted from 2023 study Medicine for at least 360 credits, about 6 years, and the programme includes a 1-year internship. Kokshetau State University's 2026 notice for foreign applicants describes 72 months: at least 54 months of study and a 12-month clinical internship. Graduates can sit the national licensing exam in Kazakh, Russian or English.
Two practical points matter. First, the embassy notes that the internship year requires Kazakh or Russian, because you work with patients, so start the language in year 1. Second, the FMGL rules do not allow you to move between universities or countries, so choose carefully at the start.
Is MBBS in Kazakhstan good for Indian students?
MBBS in Kazakhstan can be a good choice for Indian students who want a 6-year state programme that matches the NMC structure, at a lower price than private medical colleges in India. Kazakhstan's Ministry of Science and Higher Education counted 8,699 Indian students in May 2024.
The trade-offs are real: a cold climate, Russian or Kazakh for the clinical years and daily life, private renting in many cities, and the FMGE pass you still need in India.

Can Pakistani students get PMDC registration with a Kazakh degree?
Yes, if the university is on the PMDC list of recognised foreign institutions and you pass the National Registration Examination (NRE). The PMDC list includes West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov Medical University, Kazakh-Russian Medical University, Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, Karaganda Medical University, the Kazakh National (former Almaty State) Medical University, Semey Medical University, Nazarbayev University School of Medicine, South Kazakhstan Medical Academy and Kokshetau State University.
The PMDC file we checked is dated March 2023, so open the current list on pmdc.pk before you sign. According to Khabar 24, about 1,004 Pakistani students studied at 35 Kazakh universities in early 2026, and 95% of them studied medicine.
How do you apply for MBBS in Kazakhstan?
You apply directly to the university, pass an interview in English, sign a contract and pay the first year. Updated admission rules reported in July 2025 require foreign applicants to English-medium medical programmes to show an English certificate and pass an interview; the accepted minimums are IELTS Academic 5.0, TOEFL iBT 35, TOEFL ITP 417, TOEIC 550 or Duolingo English Test 80. The Ministry of Health confirmed the English certificate requirement in October 2025.
Check the university's current licence and programme in English with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Indian applicants: qualify in NEET; the NMC treats the NEET result as the eligibility certificate for studying medicine abroad.
Prepare your school certificate with apostille or consular legalisation and a notarised translation into Kazakh or Russian, plus passport, photos and medical certificates (form 086-U, HIV test, hepatitis B vaccination at Semey).
Apply in the window: Al-Farabi Kazakh National University takes online applications from 15 May to 15 August, Semey Medical University from 5 to 20 August.
Pass the interview (biology and chemistry plus English at Semey), sign the contract and pay the first year.
Wait for the visa invitation, which Astana Medical University says can take up to 14 working days, so send documents at least a month before classes.
What visa and registration do students need?
You need a study visa issued on an invitation that the university obtains from the migration police; a visa-free entry is not the route for a degree. Indian citizens may visit Kazakhstan without a visa for up to 14 days (42 days in 180), under a government decree of 7 July 2022, but that covers short visits only.
Validity: a study visa is single or double entry for up to 90 days, or multiple entry for up to 1 year. The Indian ambassador noted in April 2026 that visas are valid for one year, so you renew every year.
Renewal: Astana Medical University asks students to start the extension 45 working days before expiry, with a fingerprinting certificate from the migration police among the documents. Semey Medical University budgets about 230 USD a year for an annual multiple-entry visa.
Registration: the Embassy of India warns that you must register with the migration police within 5 calendar days of every arrival, and that a one-day delay can lead to detention or a fine. Universities ask you to report earlier: within 2 days at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and within 2 working days at Astana Medical University.
Cash: you may bring up to the equivalent of 3,000 USD in cash without a written customs declaration.
How much do hostels and living cost in Kazakhstan?
A university hostel costs roughly 225,000–365,000 KZT a year (≈ $496–$805), but places are not guaranteed for foreigners. Astana Medical University charges 315,000 KZT (≈ $695) for 9 months for first-year students and 225,000 KZT (≈ $496) for senior students, with applications through the Platonus system in July and August. Semey Medical University quotes from 800 USD a year.
The Embassy of India advises getting a written hostel guarantee before you enrol, because places are limited and many students rent flats; renters need the owner's notarised consent and a lease for registration.
For food and transport, the official subsistence minimum in Kazakhstan for 2026 is 50,851 KZT a month (≈ $112). Treat it as a floor: Almaty and Astana cost more, and you add insurance, the visa and books.
What is the climate like for students?
Kazakhstan has long, cold winters, and the north is much colder than the south. Kazhydromet, the national weather service, records an all-time January low of -51.6 °C in Astana and summer highs above +40 °C. Almaty and Shymkent in the south have milder winters but still snow. Budget for a proper winter coat, boots and gloves in your first month.
What students say
First-year Indian MBBS students say the professors and teaching are good, but the course is demanding and stressful because the university keeps strict medical standards. Many of them share rented flats in groups and cook their own food.
