What are MBBS in Kyrgyzstan fees in 2026?

MBBS in Kyrgyzstan fees at accredited universities start at about 3,000 USD a year for tuition, because the Kyrgyz government sets a minimum price for foreign medical students. According to the Embassy of India in Bishkek, which reported on a Ministry of Health press conference in April 2026, the minimum is 3,000 USD a year and 3,500 USD a year at the I.K. Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA).

UniversityProgrammeTuition per year

Osh State University (OshSU), International Medical FacultyGeneral Medicine, English, 5 years325,000 KGS (≈ $3,720)
Any accredited university (state minimum)Medicine for foreign studentsFrom 3,000 USD

The Osh State University figure comes from the rector's order of 15 June 2026, which fixes 325,000 KGS (≈ $3,720) for first-year foreign students on the English-medium General Medicine programme for 2026/27. The fee is linked to credits, so it can change if your study plan has more or fewer credits.

We could not open the current fee order of the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU), so it is not in the table. Ask the university directly and get the price in writing in your contract.

Which universities can admit medical students in Kyrgyzstan?

Only universities that passed state accreditation in 2026 may admit new medical students. In August 2025 President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree on a state monopoly on training doctors. It made the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy the main state university for medical education and ordered the Ministry of Health to finish state accreditation of private medical universities by 1 June 2026. Private universities that fail lose the right to enrol students and to issue state diplomas; they may only run preparatory courses or act as clinical bases.

This reorganisation has real consequences for students. In 2026 some private medical universities did not pass state accreditation and lost the right to enrol, and their students were transferred to accredited institutions; the Ministry of Health told the news agency 24.kg in August 2026 that more than 10,000 university students were being moved. Before you pay any fee, check that the university has current Kyrgyz state accreditation and read the latest advisory of the Embassy of India in Bishkek.

New foreign applicants now go through one state system. In March 2026 the Cabinet of Ministers set up a Center for Admission of Foreign Students under the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Indian embassy says applications run through the portal educate.gov.kg. Check that your university and programme appear there before you pay anything.

Osh State University in the southern city of Osh teaches foreign students General Medicine in English at its International Medical Faculty. The 2026/27 fee is 325,000 KGS (≈ $3,720) for the first year, and the programme is listed as 5 years.

Is MBBS in Kyrgyzstan NMC approved?

The National Medical Commission (NMC) of India does not approve foreign universities one by one; it checks whether your course meets the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021. According to the NMC's own FAQ on these rules, you need at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same foreign university, teaching in English, the subjects of the Indian MBBS, and a licence to practise in the country that gave you the degree. After that you do a 12-month supervised internship in India and pass the national exit exam.

This means two things to check in Kyrgyzstan. First, the English programme at KSMA is listed as 5 years (60 months), so ask the university in writing how the 12-month internship is organised and whether the graduate gets a licence to practise in Kyrgyzstan. Second, the FMGL rules do not allow transfers between universities or countries. Students moved by the Kyrgyz government in 2026 asked the NMC for a one-time exemption through the Indian embassy, and as of late September 2026 the NMC had not replied.

Can Pakistani students get PMDC registration with a Kyrgyz degree?

Yes, but only from a university on the list of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), and only after you pass the National Registration Examination (NRE). The PMDC list of recognised foreign institutions includes KSMA, Osh State University Medical Faculty, KRSU Medical Faculty, Jalal-Abad State University, the International School of Medicine and the International Higher School of Medicine of the International University of Kyrgyzstan, and several private universities.

Before you apply, check that the university is on the current PMDC list and has current Kyrgyz state accreditation.

How much does it cost to live in Kyrgyzstan?

Living costs are low: the official subsistence minimum in Bishkek was 9,570 KGS a month (≈ $109) per person in the first quarter of 2026, according to the National Statistical Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic. That is roughly 115,000 KGS a year (≈ $1,310). It is the minimum for a basic life, not a comfortable student budget, so plan for more.

Hostels are cheap at state universities. KSMA's campus page lists 6 hostels and a rate of 2,000 KGS a month (≈ $23) for foreign students, which is 24,000 KGS a year (≈ $274). Osh State University lists 9 dormitories but no prices online.

Subsistence minimum, Bishkek, per month9,570 KGS (≈ $109)
Subsistence minimum, Bishkek, per year114,800 KGS (≈ $1,310)

You may not work on a student visa. KSMA says working needs a W1 visa and a work permit, applied for from outside the country.

How do you get a Kyrgyz student visa?

Indian and Pakistani students need a study visa of type S, and it is issued online through the official e-visa portal, evisa.e-gov.kg, on the basis of an invitation from your university. KSMA lists the documents: a valid passport, an electronic 3x4 cm photo on a white background, and the official visa invitation that the university's visa office prepares after you apply. Osh State University says e-visa processing takes 3 working days, and your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the visa ends.

After arrival you must register your address. Osh State University says this must happen within 5 working days. The study visa is given for one year and you extend it every year, at least 30 days before it expires, with your contract, proof of tuition payment and a hostel certificate. Missing a deadline means a fine. The Indian embassy also warns students to enter Kyrgyzstan only on a student visa, not on any other type.

Is Kyrgyzstan safe for Indian students?

Kyrgyzstan is calm most of the time, but foreign students were attacked there in May 2024, and you should know what happened. On the night of 17 May 2024, after videos of an earlier fight between local men and foreign students spread online, a crowd of hundreds attacked hostels and flats of foreign students in Bishkek. Dawn reported that six hostels and private homes were attacked and that five Pakistani students were hurt. India's Ministry of External Affairs and the Pakistani embassy told students to stay indoors.

The Kyrgyz government said the situation was under control, that people involved were arrested, and that there were no seriously injured people. Pakistan flew hundreds of students home in the following days, and classes for foreign students moved online for a week. At the time, Al Jazeera reported more than 11,000 Pakistani and 15,000 Indian medical students in Kyrgyzstan.

Practical advice: save the emergency numbers of your embassy (the Indian embassy in Bishkek lists 055-571-0041 and 055-500-5538), live in a university hostel in your first year, and avoid crowds when tension is reported.

What students say

He and his three roommates hid on the fourth floor of their hostel when the crowd came. The police at the gate had no riot gear, and to him the mob only wanted to spread fear. His family at home was very worried.

— A 24-year-old third-year Pakistani medical student in Bishkek, speaking to Al Jazeera in May 2024 (report)

He chose Kyrgyzstan because it was much cheaper than studying at home, but the fall of the Pakistani rupee is making even Kyrgyz fees harder to pay every year.

— A Pakistani medical student from Faisalabad living near the attacked hostel, speaking to Al Jazeera in May 2024 (report)

His college lost state accreditation in 2026, and the government moved him to another university. He did not ask for the transfer, but the NMC rules do not allow transfers, so he is waiting to hear whether he can still sit the Indian licensing exam.
