MBBS in Russia fees for Indian students: total cost
MBBS in Russia fees for General Medicine in English run from about 374 000 to 1 200 000 RUB a year on official university pages, or roughly ₹4.4 lakh to ₹14.2 lakh. With hostel, food, insurance, visa costs and flights, six years cost about ₹40.0 lakh to ₹68.7 lakh. That money only leads to an Indian licence if you qualified NEET-UG first and the course meets the NMC FMGL 2021 rules.

How much are MBBS in Russia fees per year?

In Russia the degree is called General Medicine (Лечебное дело, code 31.05.01). The table below lists the fee each university publishes for foreign students.

Two things to read from this table. First, check the year: the Kazan State Medical University and North-Western State Medical University fees are for 2024/25, and the 2026/27 figure is likely higher. Second, the first-year fee is not the fee for all six years. Kazan State Medical University says on its fee page that its hostel charge rises 5% to 7% a year, and Russian universities usually index tuition every year.

The table does not include the money you spend after graduation: FMGE preparation, exam fees, travel to the exam centre and the 12-month supervised internship in India. It also assumes the ruble and rupee stay where they were on 1 November 2026. A 10% move in the exchange rate changes a 50,00,000 INR (≈ $52,600) budget by 5,00,000 INR (≈ $5,260), so keep a reserve.
What are MBBS in Russia fees in rupees?
Universities set the fee in rubles, and some contracts also fix a dollar amount, so the rupee cost of the same seat can change between your first and sixth year.
Why is an agent's package price different from the official fee?
Many agents in India quote one "package" price in rupees that bundles tuition, hostel, food, insurance, visa work and their own service charge. The package can be fair, but you cannot check it unless you see the university's own fee. Ask for three documents: the university fee page or price order, the contract (договор) between you and the university, and the bank details the contract names for payment. Pay tuition to the account in the contract. If the package price minus the official fees leaves a large gap, ask the agent to list what that gap pays for.
Univenter connects applicants directly with universities and checks documents before submission, so you can compare any offer with the university's own fee.
Which NMC FMGL 2021 rules decide if your MBBS in Russia counts in India?
The National Medical Commission (NMC) Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 (in force from 18 November 2021) list the conditions a foreign degree must meet before you can practise in India. If one condition fails, the money in the tables above buys a degree that does not lead to an Indian licence. Check each point against the university's curriculum and contract:
The course lasts at least 54 months (four and a half years) of study.
You complete an internship of at least 12 months in the same foreign university.
The whole course is taught in English. A bilingual track where later years switch to Russian is a risk to clarify in writing.
The training covers the subjects of the Indian MBBS syllabus.
After graduation you can register with the medical regulator of that country and get a licence to practise on par with its citizens.
You complete the course within ten years of joining.
No part of the course or internship is done in India or a third country, so you cannot transfer in or out mid-course.
After you return, you pass the screening test (FMGE now, NExT later) and complete at least 12 months of supervised internship in India.
NEET-UG is a separate gate. You must qualify NEET-UG before you are admitted abroad, and your NEET result works as the eligibility certificate for three years from the date it was declared. The Supreme Court of India upheld the NEET requirement for foreign MBBS in 2025. Semesters you study before qualifying NEET are not counted.
What is the FMGE pass rate and when will NExT start?
FMGE pass rates are low: in the June 2026 session 4 635 of about 36 300 candidates who sat the exam passed, around 12.8%. The December 2025 session saw 10 264 of 43 933 pass (about 23%), and June 2025 saw 6 707 of 36 039 pass (18.6%). These numbers come from press reports of the results notices of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS); one outlet reported a different June 2026 figure, so check the notice on natboard.edu.in. The results cover graduates of all countries together, not Russia alone.
NExT (National Exit Test) is not in force as of November 2026. In August 2026 the NMC published a draft amendment to its 2023 registration regulations that keeps FMGE as the qualifying exam for foreign graduates until NExT comes into force, and no start date has been announced.
What are the disadvantages of studying MBBS in Russia?
The main disadvantages of studying MBBS in Russia are the low FMGE pass rate, limited patient contact if you do not learn Russian, a cold and dark winter, and banking limits. International Visa and Mastercard cards issued abroad do not work in Russia, so plan how you will pay fees and receive money from home before you fly. Racism exists: students describe stares and isolated incidents rather than daily hostility, but it is real. Hostel places at popular universities can run short, and private flats need a landlord who will register you at the address.
Can you get an education loan for MBBS in Russia?
Yes, some Indian banks lend for study in Russia, but confirm with the bank that a medical degree is covered. State Bank of India's Global Ed-Vantage scheme lists Russia among eligible countries, lends from 7,50,000 INR (≈ $7,890) up to 3,00,00,000 INR (≈ $316,000), asks for collateral, and starts repayment 6 months after the course ends, over up to 15 years. Its page does not mention MBBS, so ask the branch in writing. Banks usually want the university admission letter and a fee breakdown, which is one more reason to get the official fee document.
How long is MBBS in Russia?
MBBS in Russia lasts 6 years, and most Indian students add a preparatory year only if they choose a Russian-medium track. The 6 years include the clinical training that NMC counts as the 12-month internship at the same university. With the FMGE and the Indian internship, plan for about 7 to 8 years from admission to a full licence in India, inside NMC's ten-year limit for completing the course.
What students say
He says many first-year students live on generous money from home, get used to eating out, and later end up working long hours in delivery or fast-food jobs instead of studying. Failing the allowed exam retakes can mean repeating a year, which costs a full year of fees and living costs.
— An Indian 5th-year MBBS student in Russia (video)
She describes a student whose agent told him to start Year 1 in Russia without NEET and clear it in the summer. He qualified NEET in 2022, but his first year did not count, and he had to restart the course from the beginning.
— An Indian medical student in Russia who warns against admission consultancies (video)
She warns that some agents collect tuition money from families and do not pass it on to the university, which leads to fraud and delayed enrolment.
— An Indian medical student who transferred from Perm to Arkhangelsk (video)
He counts about 18 changes to Indian draft rules on foreign graduates during his six years in Russia, and says the uncertainty confused many classmates.
— An Indian final-year student at Orenburg State Medical University (video)
He spends around 10,000 INR a month (≈ $105) on living costs when he cooks for himself, covering groceries, basic bills and some leisure.
— An Indian 2nd-year MBBS student at Samara State Medical University (video)
Where students and official sources differ: one student says the NMC ten-year window covers the degree, internship and the licensing exam. The FMGL 2021 FAQ says the course must be completed within ten years of joining. Another student describes the NExT steps as if they apply now; as of November 2026 FMGE still applies. The 10,000 INR a month (≈ $105) figure is one student's budget in Samara in his own words, so our table uses a higher range.

No. As of November 2026 NExT has no start date, and an August 2026 NMC draft keeps FMGE as the exam for foreign graduates until NExT comes into force.

Cards issued outside Russia generally do not work there, so ask the university which payment routes it accepts for foreign students. Many students pay by bank transfer to the account named in their contract.
